In 1962, the Joint Commission on Rural Reconstruction published 1,500 copies of a booklet entitled "Common Food Fishes of Taiwan". It covered 51 species of fin fishes and 14 species of other aquatic animals, with a brief description for each species and notes on its season of availability, fishingmethod, table quality, and market price. All the species were illustrated. The booklet was in such good demand, that within a year after its publication,the supply was exhausted.
