The Council of Agriculture (COA) of the Executive Yuan, guided by the principles of "innovation, employment, and equitable distribution," has been promoting a "New Innovative Agriculture Program." The core goals are to implement agricultural policies that raise farmers' incomes and provide consumers with safe agriproducts. In 2020 agriculture in Taiwan suffered major blows from the global COVID-19 pandemic and extreme weather, thus severely impacting the export market and sales channels. The COA proactively pursued three main policy lines—enhancing farmers' welfare, improving infrastructure, and upgrading competitiveness—to protect the rights and interests of the farming population and nourish an optimum agricultural environment.
