As we learn more about the factora asaociated with the orderly proceasof economic growth in nearly every developing country of the world, webecome more aware of the role which a progre3sive agriculture must playin this process. Only a· few yeara ago, developing countriea believed itessential to place overriding emphasis on industrialization, since industrialdevelopment was considered to be synonymous with modernization, whileany significant concentration of effort on agriculture marked a country asa nation of inferior status. This concept of development is· now beingreassessed, partly because of the realization that more food is going to beneeded to feed the world\'s rapidly growing population, und partly becausea more important value is being given to agriculture as a solid foundationon which to establish an industrialized society. The newly emerging conceptof development emphasizes that in most cases a developing country cannotneglect the agricultural sector in its march towa\'rds the achievement ofa modern industrial state.
