 The phenomenon of melon wilting due to Monosporascus infection is known in many regions around the world and has been referred to as melon collapse, sudden wilt, root rot, vine decline, and root rot and vine decline. This disease is known also in the ’Arava Rift Valley of southern Israel, and the major causal agent is Monosporascus cannonballus Pollack & Uecker. This pathogen is common in hot, semiarid melon-growing areas of India, southern Spain, southwestern regions of the United States, Saudi Arabia, Central America, Japan, Taiwan, and Tunisia.
